maki toki

A few weeks ago, Maki Toki finally opened. They are at 1910 West Braker Lane, Building 3, Suite 300. Their telephone number is +1 512 832 0200.
The interior reminds me a little of Food Shui (minimal decoration, nothing to absorb sound). They have five tables for two along a wall, and a bar that seats about twenty facing two wide screen television monitors.
Their menu is limited. Two pieces of nigiri cost $2.50, while rolls cost $5.00 or $8.00 depending on type.
I am not a connoisseur, so I will let others evaluate the food.

What happened to Mimosa Cafe?

We were going to go there the other day only to find that it's closed down. What happened to it?

What's Up With Maru On Burnet?

Does anyone out there know what's up with a possible new Japanese restaurant on Burnet, just across from the new Sampaio, north of 45th Street? That location used to be a Chinese restaurant that never seemed to have any customers. There's a big sign that says "Maru Japanese Restaurant" up, but construction seems to be taking forever. Rumors, gossip, or actual factual information welcome.

Maiko's real deal

A wise man once told me not to sweat a bunch of idiots spending a lot of time spreading negative publicity, because it shows intelligent people you are either feared or hated for being better.

I do not work at Maiko, or any other restaurant in town.  I have eaten at nearly every quality sushi bar in town and I have my favorites.  Maiko happens to be one.

Amy has always been my waitress and she is fantastic -- quality recommendations and GREAT service.  The sushi is also very high caliber -- I wouldn't be willing to pay Maiko's higher prices if it was not.

I'm out and about often and have yet to run into someone (real) who had anything bad to say about Maiko...other than the price.

maiko sushi chef @kennichi

why is mike the sushi chef from maikonow working partime at kennichi???
are the maiko people now sending their spies to other restaurants to see why they (other)are succesfull and not maiko???
very unproffesional
i also heard that thay have done this before???
too bad, i guess the boat is sinking and they have to find a way to stay a float before the storm comes in!!!!! hahaha :

whats going on at maiko???

I t has been a whille since i had been to maiko and visited there a few days ago hoping to taste some new things from there highly talked about and highly praised japanese chef, but to my surprise i was informed that he was no longer with the company and had been replaced by a chinese chef. How can a new restaurant survive with such a large turn around and image change????
and how could you replace a japanese chef with a chinese chef???
i gues the maiko people just dont know the market and restaurant business yet??
i wonder how .ong they will last???

maiko

I had a large party at maiko last week and was completely disappointed and embarrassed. the waiter only ordered about half of the food, didn't order any of the sushi and took forever on our drinks. By far the worst service I have ever had anywhere. There is only one cook in the kitchen and wait time is long to get your food. The famous chef Sei is no longer there. the food was good but way overpriced. I myself will not be going back to Maiko.

chef at maiko

I have heard that the chef at Maiko is now in Austin full time and will no longer go back to dallas.I have heard that the food at Maiko is spectacular and has a very different approach to japanese contemporary cuisine than uchi or kenichi. That has alot to say about the Austin culinary scene and the direction it is going with new chefs coming from all corners of the globe such as the chef at Maiko and bringing with them their international experience and flair as well as knowledge to austin.

MAIKO SUSHI CHEF

I HEARD THAT THE CHEF FOR MAIKO IS FROM JAPAN AND COMES WITH A GREAT CULINARY BACKGROUND. IT IS SAID THAT HE IS THE TOP JAPANESE CHEF IN DALLAS AND COMES TO AUSTIN TO INTRODUCE TRUE EDOMAE SUSHI AS WELL AS HIS EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND IN JAPANESE AND EUROPEAN CUISINE.
AND HE IS GOODLOOKING AS WELL :D
